Cross-country skiing – covering the snow world in forests
Cross-country skiing refers to a long distance sliding in low-hill regions. It may not be as thrilling as alpine skiing, but considering safety and the purpose of physical exercise, it is more practical and easier to be engaged.
Searching through China’s Heilongjiang Province, we may find a city called Mudanjiang, in which Xuexiang (literally snow town) is located at Shuangfeng woodland, Changting town, and Hailin County of that city. The snow town is 105 km from Changting town, and it covers a territory of 500 hectares. The whole region has an average altitude of over 1,200 meters, with a climate of rich drops both in summer and winter. The place enjoys a seven months’ snow-covered period out of a year (from Oct to the coming May); the annual depth of the cover can reach 2 meters in average. It has the biggest amount of snow in China, the quality of which is also the best (the snow is thick and dense). It is therefore renowned as the “snow town of China.”
